Brief rules

Second conditional is used to talk about imaginary, unlikely or hypothetical situations in the present or future.

Form: If + past simple, would + infinitive.

Example: If I lived in the year 2100, I would travel in a flying car.

Important: The past simple after if does not mean the past here. It shows that the situation is imaginary or not real now.
